The evad3rs (the latest Dev Team on the jailbreak scene) recently announced the forthcoming release of a new untethered jailbreak utility, dubbed Evasion, which is more causally referred to as simply, evasi0n. Thankfully, the new team, which consists of legendary hackers MuscleNerd, pod2g, planetbeing and pimskeks, are planning to release evasi0n to the public this Sunday, February 3rd, 2013. Once Evasi0n is released, all iOS-based devices will be able to jailbreak on the latest firmwares, including Apple’s new iPhone 5, iPad mini and 4th generation iPad. Evasion is a desktop tool that will be available for all major operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

New lockscreen glitch may mean a quick iOS 6.1.4

New lockscreen glitch may mean a quick iOS 6.1.4 - evasi0n team credited in Apple's iOS 6.1.3 notes, not working on update yet

The evasi0n untethered jailbreak wasn't able to evade the fixed exploits in this week's iOS 6.1.3 update, but at least Apple is giving the hacking team a tip o' the hat.

A security note released by the company acknowledges the evad3rs team for being the to first discover four of the six vulnerabilities that were patched in iOS 6.1.3.

"It's kind of fun to see our online aliases, which tend to be pretty whimsical, listed alongside more staid names," David Wang, evasi0n creator, told TechRadar.

As one of the four evad3rs hackers who took advantage of iOS bugs to create a way for users to install non-Apple-approved software, Wang noted that this is "not the first time Apple has named jailbreakers in their release notes for security fixes."

The evasi0n untethered jailbreak team is credited in the Apple document for being the first to come across the dyld, Kernel, Lockdown and USB.

Jailbreak iPhone 5 /4S: Evasi0n and Redsn0w mum on iOS 6.1.4 pre-WWDC

Jailbreak iPhone 5 /4S: Evasi0n and Redsn0w mum on iOS 6.1.4 pre-WWDC - Leading jailbreak teams Evasi0n and Redsn0w are laying low on the prospects for iOS 6.1.4 on the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S ahead of Apple’s annual WWDC developer conference, preferring to stay mum for now as to what they plan to do with the latest update. After taking a pass on the previous 6.1.3 update sue to its security-only nature, jailbreak teams are now at a crossroads with the arrival of 6.1.4 which minor actual iPhone 5 feature enhancements. But don’t expect either team to make a move prior to the conference, as Apple may release yet another iOS 6.x update at the event.

iOS 6.1.3 was widely believed to be the end of the line for 6.x releases, but Apple released iOS 6.1.4 last week, foiling the plans of jailbreak teams who were hoping to be able to pack it in until the arrival of iOS 7. WWDC will enlighten hacker teams like Evasi0n and Redsn0w on two fronts. First it’ll reveal a general timeframe for the iOS 7 developer beta testing and public release, letting jailbreakers know how long they’ll have to wait until the iOS 7 cavalry arrives. Second, if Apple introduces new mobile hardware at the conference such as a new iPhone or iPad model it may be immediately accompanied by the release of an iOS 6.1.5 or a more comprehensive iOS 6.2. update.

The latter would almost certainly motivate jailbreak teams into action, while the former would if nothing else make the iOS 6.1.4 question moot as it would no longer be the latest release. In the mean time iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S jailbreak users are left either stuck on 6.1.2 or twiddling their thumbs until iOS 7 arrives and the Evasi0n and Redsn0w can get to work on it.
